Check your Tyres

Tyre condition is critical to a bike’s stability when cornering, braking and accelerating

The actual contact area between the tyre and the road is very small, around the size of a book of stamps, therefore all riders should ensure that their tyres are in tip top condition and maintained correctly to help improve their safety and the safety of others on the roads.

Helpful Safety Tips

Using an accurate tyre pressure gauge try and check your tyre pressures from cold at least once a week

Always ensure your tyres are inflated to the pressure recommended in the manufacturer’s handbook, do not over inflate.

Try to inspect tyres for any cuts, bulges, uneven wear signs or foreign objects embedded into the tyre. Replace immediately if necessary. Any of these faults could cause a blow out.

Regularly check your rims for cracks or bends. If you find any faults of this type you should replace them immediately.

Check your tread depth and it is not below the legal minimum requirement of 1mm (for bikes over 50cc).

Always select the correct tyres for your machine and riding style. Your local dealer can advise you on this.

Make sure both your tyres have the same tread pattern

Make sure that your tyres is correctly fitted the right way by checking the directional arrows on the sidewalls.

Whenever replacing tubed type tires use a new inner tube and make sure the tyre and wheel assembly is balanced correctly.

If unsure on any aspect of tyre safety, it is best to take your bike to your local approved fitting centre and speak to the experts, better to be safe than sorry.
